Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange info between a web server and a client. Since the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of managing a website hosting account. The commands that may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the choices are limited since you shall not have root access to the server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They are all actions which are executed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a number of apps for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Hosting
If the hosting
package which you’ve picked during the signup process offers SSH access by default, you will be able to activate this function with a mouse click in your Hepsia Control Panel. In case you have chosen a different plan, the SSH access function can be included using the Upgrades menu and it shall become available at once. All the information you need to connect will be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You may also set what password to use from the same place and you'll be able to modify it anytime. All commands that are permitted are listed inside the Help articles that we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you must use. An additional advantage of enabling SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server
solutions, while with others you can include it via the hosting Control Panel if required - even only for the current month. In any case, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with just one mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you can easily enter the password that you would like to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you could also change it as much as you want. The full list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several examples. An extra feature after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports such connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server
offers provide SSH access as standard, so you won't have to include any upgrades or enable anything - as soon as the server is set up and you receive its login info, you'll be able to connect through its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've picked during the signup process. Due to the fact that the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions in terms of the commands which you may run. Your server will be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage just about everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you may work with your files, databases and any applications that you install in a fast and secure way.
